Bristow brings home a bonus point.

Brad Atkins4 Oct 2010 - 15:58

4 try Sam Bristow helps secure a bonus point as K's continue unbeaten.

In a game where Keresley were always supposed to win to Welsh’s credit they made K's work for everything. Keresley were playing their free flowing style of rugby moving the ball wide at every opportunity but Welsh stood strong & more often than not manage to turn the ball over in contact reducing Keresley's phase play to 1 or 2 at best. The Keresley forward's seem to be hanging out waiting for the ball opposed to going in & securing it. However they did manage to deliver superb ball from the set pieces particularly the scrum were K's were completely dominant to the point where hooker Spence Atkins lost count of the balls won against the head. K's had been camped in the opposition half for nearly 20 mins when with Welsh putting into the scrum Keresley pack quickly made the ball theirs, the ball was span slickly across the back division for winger Sam Bristow to cross unopposed & touch down under the post for an easy conversion for Conor Martin. K's now into their stride quickly added another 2 tries again through Sam Bristow with him securing his hat-trick within half an hour. K's had to wait till nearly the end of the half for the next try when they smartly recycled the ball away from the ruck to Conor Martin who had lots of support runners, the Welsh defenders seemed more interested in prop Tank Robinson which allowed Martin to firstly dummy & run through the gap then dummy switch with Tank to go over unopposed from fully 40 meters. He added another penalty before the half time whistle for K's to go in 27-0 up.

The second half continued in the same form but now with the K's forwards addressing their short comings the phase play increased but again to Welsh's Credit they stuck to their task & made K's work for everything. With lots of players needing treatment from both sides most notably Ash Clark (Broken Collar Bone) & Pip Wilkinson (Ribs) the game lost its tempo. But Sam Bristow break the half's deadlock scoring his 4th try of the day & securing his man of the match nomination. Welsh started putting things together & had K's on the rack with a succession of scrum's in & around the K's 22 but they just couldn't find the edge , which allowed Keresley to slowly work their way out of the half & down to the Welsh 22. With a scrum 10 meters out from the Welsh try line & with K's dominance at the scrum still featuring heavily the inevitable push over happened with no 8 Tom McKnight touching down , Martin Converting. K's did manage to add one more try before the end when Openside Flanker Dave Moriarty forced his way over from a pick & drive close to the Welsh line.
